- Bold, larger (ˈ) = say it strong and a little longer — the stressed syllable.
- Faint = weak and short (a reduced vowel). Don't give every syllable equal weight.
- Tiny 으 · 트 · 스 = barely voiced. English has no vowel there — stop on the consonant.
- Whole word faint (the, of, and, to…) = light and quick in a sentence; stress the content words.
- Small f v θ ð r = sounds Korean doesn't have — f: upper teeth on the lower lip; v: the same, voiced; θ/ð: tongue tip between the teeth; r: tongue curled back, touching nothing.

Surah
About this surah
The surah opens by declaring that the Book, free of doubt, is sent down from the Lord of all the worlds. It describes God creating the heavens and earth in six days, beginning the creation of man from clay, breathing His spirit into him and giving people hearing, sight and hearts. To those who doubt resurrection it answers that the angel of death will take their souls, and it pictures the guilty hanging their heads on the Day, begging to be sent back. In contrast, it portrays believers who fall down in prostration when reminded of the verses, leave their beds to call on their Lord in fear and hope, and for whom a hidden delight is kept. It then mentions the Book given to Moses as guidance for the Children of Israel and the generations destroyed before, and ends by telling the Prophet to wait for the day of decisive judgment.

The sending down of the Book, in which there is no doubt, is from the Lord of all the worlds.
-
3
Or do they say, “He has invented it”? No, it is the truth from your Lord, so that you may warn a people to whom no warner came before you, so that they may be guided.
-
4
It is God who created the heavens and the earth and all that is between them in six days, then established Himself on the Throne. You have no protector or intercessor besides Him. Will you not take heed?
-
5
He directs the affair from the heaven to the earth; then it ascends to Him in a day whose length is a thousand years of what you count.
-
6
That is the Knower of the unseen and the seen, the Almighty, the Most Merciful,
-
7
who made excellent everything He created, and began the creation of man from clay.
-
8
Then He caused his descendants to come from the essence of a humble fluid.
-
9
Then He shaped him and breathed into him of His spirit, and He gave you hearing, sight, and hearts. Little are you grateful!
-
10
They say, “When we have been lost in the earth, will we really be [brought back] in a new creation?” No, they deny the meeting with their Lord.
-
11
Say, “The angel of death, who has been put in charge of you, will take your souls; then to your Lord you will be returned.”
-
12
If only you could see when the guilty hang their heads before their Lord: “Our Lord, we have seen and we have heard, so send us back and we will do righteous deeds. We are now certain.”
-
13
Had We willed, We could have given every soul its guidance. But the word from Me has come true: “I will surely fill Hell with jinn and people all together.”
-
14
“So taste [the punishment] because you forgot the meeting of this Day of yours. We, too, have forgotten you. Taste the everlasting punishment for what you used to do.”
-
15
Only those believe in Our verses who, when they are reminded of them, fall down prostrating and glorify their Lord with praise, and they are not arrogant.
-
16
Their sides forsake their beds as they call upon their Lord in fear and hope, and they spend out of what We have provided for them.
-
17
No soul knows what delight of the eyes has been kept hidden for them as a reward for what they used to do.
-
18
Is one who is a believer like one who is defiant? They are not equal.
-
19
As for those who believe and do righteous deeds, they will have the Gardens of refuge as a welcome for what they used to do.
-
20
But as for those who are defiant, their refuge is the Fire. Whenever they wish to get out of it, they will be put back into it, and it will be said to them, “Taste the punishment of the Fire which you used to deny.”
-
21
We will surely make them taste the nearer punishment before the greater punishment, so that they may turn back.
-
22
Who does greater wrong than one who is reminded of his Lord’s verses and then turns away from them? We will surely take retribution on the guilty.
-
23
We certainly gave the Book to Moses — so have no doubt about encountering him — and We set it as a guide for the Children of Israel.
-
24
From among them We made leaders who guided by Our command when they were steadfast, and they were certain of Our signs.
-
25
Your Lord will judge between them on the Day of Resurrection concerning that in which they used to differ.
-
26
Is it not a lesson for them how many generations We destroyed before them, in whose dwellings they now walk? In that are surely signs. Will they not listen?
-
27
Have they not seen that We drive water to the barren land and bring forth crops with it, from which their livestock and they themselves eat? Will they not see?
-
28
They say, “When will this decisive judgement come, if you are truthful?”
-
29
Say, “On the day of decisive judgement, their faith will not benefit those who disbelieved, nor will they be granted respite.”
-
30
So leave them alone and wait — they also are waiting.
