- Bold, larger (ˈ) = say it strong and a little longer — the stressed syllable.
- Faint = weak and short (a reduced vowel). Don't give every syllable equal weight.
- Tiny 으 · 트 · 스 = barely voiced. English has no vowel there — stop on the consonant.
- Whole word faint (the, of, and, to…) = light and quick in a sentence; stress the content words.
- Small f v θ ð r = sounds Korean doesn't have — f: upper teeth on the lower lip; v: the same, voiced; θ/ð: tongue tip between the teeth; r: tongue curled back, touching nothing.

Surah
About this surah
This surah is classified as revealed in the Medinan period. It begins with all things glorifying God, who created people, some of whom believe and some of whom do not, and who knows what lies within hearts. It recalls earlier peoples who rejected their messengers by asking whether mere humans would guide them, and answers those who deny resurrection that they will surely be raised and told what they did. The Day of Gathering is described as the day of mutual loss and gain, when believers enter the Gardens and deniers the Fire, and no disaster strikes except by God's permission. The second half warns that some spouses and children may act as enemies, yet urges pardon and forgiveness; it calls wealth and children a trial and tells believers to be mindful of God as much as they are able, to listen, obey and spend.

1
Whatever is in the heavens and whatever is on the earth glorifies God. His is the dominion and His is the praise, and He has power over all things.
-
2
It is He who created you, and among you are disbelievers and among you are believers. And God sees whatever you do.
-
3
He created the heavens and the earth in truth, and He shaped you and made your shapes excellent, and to Him is the final return.
-
4
He knows all that the heavens and the earth contain, and He knows what you keep secret and what you make known. God is fully aware of what lies within hearts.
-
5
Has there not come to you the news of those who disbelieved before? They tasted the evil result of their conduct, and they will have a painful punishment.
-
6
That is because their messengers used to come to them with clear proofs, but they said, "Shall mere human beings guide us?" So they disbelieved and turned away, and God had no need [of them]. And God is Self-Sufficient, Praiseworthy.
-
7
Those who disbelieve claim that they will never be raised. Say, "Yes indeed, by my Lord, you will surely be raised; then you will surely be informed of what you did. And that is easy for God."
-
8
Believe, then, in God and His Messenger and in the light We have revealed. God is well acquainted with whatever you do.
-
9
On the Day He gathers you for the Day of Gathering — that is the Day of mutual loss and gain. And whoever believes in God and does righteous deeds, He will remove from him his misdeeds and admit him into Gardens beneath which rivers flow, to abide therein forever. That is the great triumph.
-
10
But those who disbelieve and deny Our signs — they are the companions of the Fire, abiding therein, and what a wretched destination!
-
11
No disaster strikes except by the permission of God. And whoever believes in God, He will guide his heart. And God has knowledge of all things.
-
12
Obey God and obey the Messenger. But if you turn away, then upon Our Messenger is only the clear delivery [of the message].
-
13
God: there is no god except Him. So let the believers place their trust in God.
-
14
O you who believe, among your spouses and your children are enemies to you, so beware of them. But if you pardon and overlook and forgive, then indeed God is Most Forgiving, Most Merciful.
-
15
Your wealth and your children are only a trial, and with God is a great reward.
-
16
So be mindful of God as much as you are able, and listen and obey, and spend; it is better for yourselves. And whoever is protected from the greed of his own soul — they are the successful.
-
17
If you lend God a goodly loan, He will multiply it for you and forgive you. And God is Most Appreciative, Most Forbearing,
