How to read the Hangul

الرَّحْمَٰنِ르^r라흐마니 بِسْمِ비스밀

Bold = the stressed syllable of the word; a little stronger.
Overline = long vowel (madd): hold it about two beats. Length matters most in recitation.
Tiny = no vowel in the Arabic here — just the consonant, short.
Small Latin letter = a sound Korean lacks, on the next syllable: f upper teeth on lower lip · θ/ð tongue tip between the teeth · r rolled tongue tip (a bare ㄹ is l).

How to read the Hangul

Bold, larger (ˈ) = say it strong and a little longer — the stressed syllable.
Faint = weak and short (a reduced vowel). Don't give every syllable equal weight.
Tiny 으 · 트 · 스 = barely voiced. English has no vowel there — stop on the consonant.
Whole word faint (the, of, and, to…) = light and quick in a sentence; stress the content words.
Small f v θ ð r = sounds Korean doesn't have — f: upper teeth on the lower lip; v: the same, voiced; θ/ð: tongue tip between the teeth; r: tongue curled back, touching nothing.

About this surah

This surah is classified as revealed in the Meccan period. It opens by asking three times what the Inevitable Reality is, then recalls those who denied it: Thamud, destroyed by an overwhelming blast; Ad, destroyed by an icy wind that blew for seven nights and eight days; Pharaoh and the overturned cities; and the flood, from which people were carried in the ship. It then describes the Day when the Trumpet sounds once, the earth and mountains are crushed, and the sky splits open. Whoever receives his record in his right hand will rejoice and enter a lofty Garden, while whoever receives it in his left hand will lament that neither wealth nor authority helped him, and will be cast into Hellfire. The surah ends with an oath that this is not the speech of a poet or a soothsayer but a revelation from the Lord of all the worlds and the certain truth.

The name The name comes from verses 1-3, which open by repeating the phrase 'the Inevitable Reality' and asking what it is.

مَا말 الْحَاقَّةُ학까흐

وَمَا와마 أَدْرَاكَ아드^r라카 مَا말 الْحَاقَّةُ학까흐

كَذَّبَتْ캇^ð다바트 ثَمُودُ^θ사무두 وَعَادٌ와아둠 بِالْقَارِعَةِ빌까^r리아흐
5
فَأَمَّا^f파암마 ثَمُودُ^θ사무두 فَأُهْلِكُوا^f파우흘리쿠 بِالطَّاغِيَةِ빗따기야흐
6
وَأَمَّا와암마 عَادٌ아둔 فَأُهْلِكُوا^f파우흘리쿠 بِرِيحٍ비^r리힌 صَرْصَرٍ사^r르사^r린 عَاتِيَةٍ아티야흐

سَخَّرَهَا삭카^r라하 عَلَيْهِمْ알라이힘 سَبْعَ사브아 لَيَالٍ라얄린 وَثَمَانِيَةَ와^θ사마니야타 أَيَّامٍ아이야민 حُسُومًا후수만 فَتَرَى^f파타^r랄 الْقَوْمَ까우마 فِيهَا^f피하 صَرْعَىٰ사^r르아 كَأَنَّهُمْ카안나훔 أَعْجَازُ아으자주 نَخْلٍ나흘린 خَاوِيَةٍ카위야흐

فَهَلْ^f파할 تَرَىٰ타^r라 لَهُمْ라훔 مِنْ밈 بَاقِيَةٍ바끼야흐
9
وَجَاءَ와자아 فِرْعَوْنُ^f피^r르아우누 وَمَنْ와만 قَبْلَهُ까블라후 وَالْمُؤْتَفِكَاتُ왈무으타^f피카투 بِالْخَاطِئَةِ빌카띠아흐
10
فَعَصَوْا^f파아사우 رَسُولَ^r라술라 رَبِّهِمْ^r랍비힘 فَأَخَذَهُمْ^f파아카^ð다훔 أَخْذَةً아흐^ð다탄 رَابِيَةً^r라비야흐
11
إِنَّا인나 لَمَّا람마 طَغَى따갈 الْمَاءُ마우 حَمَلْنَاكُمْ하말나쿰 فِي^f필 الْجَارِيَةِ자^r리야흐
12
لِنَجْعَلَهَا리나즈알라하 لَكُمْ라쿰 تَذْكِرَةً타^ð드키^r라탄 وَتَعِيَهَا와타이야하 أُذُنٌ우^ð두눈 وَاعِيَةٌ와이야흐
13
فَإِذَا^f파이^ð다 نُفِخَ누^f피카 فِي^f핏 الصُّورِ수^r리 نَفْخَةٌ나^f프카툰 وَاحِدَةٌ와히다흐
14
وَحُمِلَتِ와후밀라틸 الْأَرْضُ아^r르두 وَالْجِبَالُ왈지발루 فَدُكَّتَا^f파둑카타 دَكَّةً닥카탄 وَاحِدَةً와히다흐
15
فَيَوْمَئِذٍ^f파야우마이^ð딘 وَقَعَتِ와까아틸 الْوَاقِعَةُ와끼아흐
16
وَانْشَقَّتِ완샥까팃 السَّمَاءُ사마우 فَهِيَ^f파히야 يَوْمَئِذٍ야우마이^ð딘 وَاهِيَةٌ와히야흐
17
وَالْمَلَكُ왈말라쿠 عَلَىٰ알라 أَرْجَائِهَا아^r르자이하 ۚ وَيَحْمِلُ와야흐밀루 عَرْشَ아^r르샤 رَبِّكَ^r랍비카 فَوْقَهُمْ^f파우까훔 يَوْمَئِذٍ야우마이^ð딘 ثَمَانِيَةٌ^θ사마니야흐

يَوْمَئِذٍ야우마이^ð딘 تُعْرَضُونَ투으^r라두나 لَا라 تَخْفَىٰ타흐^f파 مِنْكُمْ민쿰 خَافِيَةٌ카^f피야흐
19
فَأَمَّا^f파암마 مَنْ만 أُوتِيَ우티야 كِتَابَهُ키타바후 بِيَمِينِهِ비야미니히 فَيَقُولُ^f파야꿀루 هَاؤُمُ하우무 اقْرَءُوا끄^r라우 كِتَابِيَهْ키타비야흐

إِنِّي인니 ظَنَنْتُ^ð다난투 أَنِّي안니 مُلَاقٍ물라낀 حِسَابِيَهْ히사비야흐
21
فَهُوَ^f파후와 فِي^f피 عِيشَةٍ이샤틴 رَاضِيَةٍ^r라디야흐
22
فِي^f피 جَنَّةٍ잔나틴 عَالِيَةٍ알리야흐
23
قُطُوفُهَا꾸뚜^f푸하 دَانِيَةٌ다니야흐
24
كُلُوا쿨루 وَاشْرَبُوا와시^r라부 هَنِيئًا하니암 بِمَا비마 أَسْلَفْتُمْ아슬라^f프툼 فِي^f필 الْأَيَّامِ아이야밀 الْخَالِيَةِ칼리야흐
25
وَأَمَّا와암마 مَنْ만 أُوتِيَ우티야 كِتَابَهُ키타바후 بِشِمَالِهِ비시말리히 فَيَقُولُ^f파야꿀루 يَا야 لَيْتَنِي라이타니 لَمْ람 أُوتَ우타 كِتَابِيَهْ키타비야흐

وَلَمْ왈람 أَدْرِ아드^r리 مَا마 حِسَابِيَهْ히사비야흐
27
يَا야 لَيْتَهَا라이타하 كَانَتِ카나틸 الْقَاضِيَةَ까디야흐
28
مَا마 أَغْنَىٰ아그나 عَنِّي안니 مَالِيَهْ말리야흐 ۜ
29
هَلَكَ할라카 عَنِّي안니 سُلْطَانِيَهْ술따니야흐
30
خُذُوهُ쿠^ð두후 فَغُلُّوهُ^f파굴루흐
31
ثُمَّ^θ숨말 الْجَحِيمَ자히마 صَلُّوهُ살루흐
32
ثُمَّ^θ숨마 فِي^f피 سِلْسِلَةٍ실실라틴 ذَرْعُهَا^ð다^r르우하 سَبْعُونَ사브우나 ذِرَاعًا^ð디^r라안 فَاسْلُكُوهُ^f파슬루쿠흐
33
إِنَّهُ인나후 كَانَ카나 لَا라 يُؤْمِنُ유으미누 بِاللَّهِ빌라힐 الْعَظِيمِ아^ð딤
34
وَلَا왈라 يَحُضُّ야훗두 عَلَىٰ알라 طَعَامِ따아밀 الْمِسْكِينِ미스킨
35
فَلَيْسَ^f팔라이사 لَهُ라훌 الْيَوْمَ야우마 هَاهُنَا하후나 حَمِيمٌ하밈
36
وَلَا왈라 طَعَامٌ따아문 إِلَّا일라 مِنْ민 غِسْلِينٍ기슬린
37
لَا라 يَأْكُلُهُ야으쿨루후 إِلَّا일랄 الْخَاطِئُونَ카띠운
38
فَلَا^f팔라 أُقْسِمُ욱시무 بِمَا비마 تُبْصِرُونَ툽시^r룬
39
وَمَا와마 لَا라 تُبْصِرُونَ툽시^r룬
40
إِنَّهُ인나후 لَقَوْلُ라까울루 رَسُولٍ^r라술린 كَرِيمٍ카^r림
41
وَمَا와마 هُوَ후와 بِقَوْلِ비까울리 شَاعِرٍ샤이^r린 ۚ قَلِيلًا깔릴람 مَا마 تُؤْمِنُونَ투으미눈
42
وَلَا왈라 بِقَوْلِ비까울리 كَاهِنٍ카히닌 ۚ قَلِيلًا깔릴람 مَا마 تَذَكَّرُونَ타^ð닥카^r룬
43
تَنْزِيلٌ탄질룸 مِنْ민 رَبِّ^r랍빌 الْعَالَمِينَ알라민
44
وَلَوْ왈라우 تَقَوَّلَ타까우왈라 عَلَيْنَا알라이나 بَعْضَ바으달 الْأَقَاوِيلِ아까윌
45
لَأَخَذْنَا라아카^ð드나 مِنْهُ민후 بِالْيَمِينِ빌야민
46
ثُمَّ^θ숨마 لَقَطَعْنَا라까따으나 مِنْهُ민훌 الْوَتِينَ와틴
47
فَمَا^f파마 مِنْكُمْ민쿰 مِنْ민 أَحَدٍ아하딘 عَنْهُ안후 حَاجِزِينَ하지진
48
وَإِنَّهُ와인나후 لَتَذْكِرَةٌ라타^ð드키^r라툴 لِلْمُتَّقِينَ릴뭇타낀
49
وَإِنَّا와인나 لَنَعْلَمُ라나을라무 أَنَّ안나 مِنْكُمْ민쿰 مُكَذِّبِينَ무캇^ð디빈
50
وَإِنَّهُ와인나후 لَحَسْرَةٌ라하스^r라툰 عَلَى알랄 الْكَافِرِينَ카^f피^r린
51
وَإِنَّهُ와인나후 لَحَقُّ라학꿀 الْيَقِينِ야낀
52
فَسَبِّحْ^f파삽비흐 بِاسْمِ비스미 رَبِّكَ^r랍비칼 الْعَظِيمِ아^ð딤
