- Bold = the stressed syllable of the word; a little stronger.
- Overline = long vowel (madd): hold it about two beats. Length matters most in recitation.
- Tiny = no vowel in the Arabic here — just the consonant, short.
- Small Latin letter = a sound Korean lacks, on the next syllable: f upper teeth on lower lip · θ/ð tongue tip between the teeth · r rolled tongue tip (a bare ㄹ is l).

beginning the Christ salvation
- Bold, larger (ˈ) = say it strong and a little longer — the stressed syllable.
- Faint = weak and short (a reduced vowel). Don't give every syllable equal weight.
- Tiny 으 · 트 · 스 = barely voiced. English has no vowel there — stop on the consonant.
- Whole word faint (the, of, and, to…) = light and quick in a sentence; stress the content words.
- Small f v θ ð r = sounds Korean doesn't have — f: upper teeth on the lower lip; v: the same, voiced; θ/ð: tongue tip between the teeth; r: tongue curled back, touching nothing.

Surah
About this surah
This surah is classified as revealed in the Meccan period. It swears by the Day of Resurrection and by the self-reproaching soul, and answers the person who thinks God will not gather his bones: God is able to restore even his fingertips. It describes the Day when sight is dazzled and the moon eclipsed, when man will ask where to escape and will become a witness against himself despite his excuses. In the middle the Messenger is told not to move his tongue to hasten the revelation, since its collection, recitation and clarification rest with God. The surah contrasts radiant faces looking at their Lord with gloomy ones, depicts the moment of death when the soul reaches the collarbones, and closes by asking whether the One who created man from a drop of fluid is not able to give life to the dead.

사람은 우리가 그의 뼈를 모으지 못하리라고 생각하느냐?
Does man think that We will not gather his bones?
-
4
그렇지 않다. 우리는 그의 손가락 끝마디까지도 바로 맞추어 놓을 수 있다.
Yes indeed, We are able to restore even his fingertips.
-

그러나 사람은 앞날에도 계속 죄를 짓고 싶어 한다.

그는 "부활의 날이 언제냐?"라고 묻는다.
He asks, "When is the Day of Resurrection?"

8
달이 빛을 잃으며,
and the moon is eclipsed,
-
9
해와 달이 한데 모일 때,
and the sun and the moon are joined together,
-
10
그날 사람은 "어디로 달아나야 하는가?"라고 말할 것이다.
man will say on that Day, "Where is the escape?"
-
11
결코 그렇지 않다! 피난처는 없다.
By no means! There is no refuge.

Indeed upon Us is its collection and its recitation.
-
18
그러니 우리가 그것을 낭송하거든 그 낭송을 따르라.
So when We have recited it, follow its recitation.
-
19
그런 다음 그것을 풀어 밝히는 것도 우리가 맡은 일이다.
Then upon Us is its clarification.

-
25
등뼈를 부러뜨릴 재앙이 자기들에게 닥치리라고 생각할 것이다.
expecting that a backbreaking calamity will be done to them.
-
26
결코 그렇지 않다! [영혼이] 쇄골에 이르고,

-
27
"누가 [그를] 고칠 수 있느냐?"라는 말이 오가며,
and it is said, "Who can cure [him]?"
-
28
그가 이제 이별이라는 것을 깨달으며,
and he is certain that it is the parting,
-
29

그날 너의 주님께로 몰려가게 될 것이다.
to your Lord on that Day will be the driving.

-
33
그런 다음 거들먹거리며 자기 가족에게로 갔다.
then went to his family, swaggering.
-
34
너에게 화가 있으라, 또 화가 있으라!

Then he was a clinging clot, and [God] created and proportioned [him],
-
39
그리고 그것에서 남자와 여자, 짝을 이루는 둘을 만드셨다.
and made from it the two of a pair, the male and the female.
-

그러한 분께서 죽은 이들을 살리실 수 없으시겠느냐?
Is not He then able to give life to the dead?
