- Bold = the stressed syllable of the word; a little stronger.
- Overline = long vowel (madd): hold it about two beats. Length matters most in recitation.
- Tiny = no vowel in the Arabic here — just the consonant, short.
- Small Latin letter = a sound Korean lacks, on the next syllable: f upper teeth on lower lip · θ/ð tongue tip between the teeth · r rolled tongue tip (a bare ㄹ is l).

beginning the Christ salvation
- Bold, larger (ˈ) = say it strong and a little longer — the stressed syllable.
- Faint = weak and short (a reduced vowel). Don't give every syllable equal weight.
- Tiny 으 · 트 · 스 = barely voiced. English has no vowel there — stop on the consonant.
- Whole word faint (the, of, and, to…) = light and quick in a sentence; stress the content words.
- Small f v θ ð r = sounds Korean doesn't have — f: upper teeth on the lower lip; v: the same, voiced; θ/ð: tongue tip between the teeth; r: tongue curled back, touching nothing.

About this surah
This surah is classified as revealed in the Meccan period. It swears by winds sent forth in succession, blowing violently and spreading clouds, and declares that what has been promised will surely come. It describes the Day of Decision, when the stars are blotted out, the sky splits and the mountains are blown away, and it closes each section with the refrain 'Woe on that Day to the deniers,' repeated ten times. Between the refrains it points to the destruction of earlier peoples, the creation of man from a despised fluid, and the earth that holds the living and the dead and provides sweet water. It contrasts the deniers, sent to a three-columned shadow of smoke and sparks as large as castles, with the God-fearing among shades, springs and fruits, and ends by asking in what message after this they will believe.
- Oath by the sent winds
- The Day of Decision

The name The name comes from verse 1, which swears by 'those sent forth in succession.'
-
1
By those [winds] sent forth in succession,
-
2
and those that blow violently,
-
3
and those that spread [clouds] far and wide,
-
4
and those that separate [truth from falsehood] decisively,
-
5
and those that deliver a reminder,
-
6
as justification or warning:
-
7
surely what you have been promised will befall.
-
8
So when the stars are blotted out,
-
9
and when the sky is split open,
-
10
and when the mountains are blown away,
-
11
and when the messengers are gathered at their appointed time —
-
12
for what Day has this been postponed?
-
13
For the Day of Decision.
-
14
And what will make you know what the Day of Decision is?
-
15
Woe on that Day to the deniers!
-
16
Did We not destroy the former peoples?
-
17
Then We will make the later ones follow them.
-
18
Thus do We deal with the wicked.
-
19
Woe on that Day to the deniers!
-
20
Did We not create you from a despised fluid,
-
21
and place it in a secure lodging
-
22
for a known term?
-
23
So We determined, and how excellent are We to determine!
-
24
Woe on that Day to the deniers!
-
25
Did We not make the earth a container
-
26
for the living and the dead,
-
27
and place therein lofty, firm mountains, and give you sweet water to drink?
-
28
Woe on that Day to the deniers!
-
29
"Proceed to that which you used to deny!
-
30
Proceed to a shadow [of smoke] having three columns,
-
31
[which is] neither shading nor availing against the flame."
-
32
Indeed it throws sparks [as huge] as castles,
-
33
as if they were yellowish camels.
-
34
Woe on that Day to the deniers!
-
35
This is a Day they will not speak,
-
36
nor will they be permitted to offer excuses.
-
37
Woe on that Day to the deniers!
-
38
This is the Day of Decision; We have gathered you and the former peoples.
-
39
So if you have a plan, then plot against Me.
-
40
Woe on that Day to the deniers!
-
41
Indeed the God-fearing will be among shades and springs,
-
42
and fruits of whatever they desire.
-
43
"Eat and drink in satisfaction for what you used to do."
-
44
Indeed, thus do We reward the doers of good.
-
45
Woe on that Day to the deniers!
-
46
"Eat and enjoy yourselves a little; indeed you are wicked."
-
47
Woe on that Day to the deniers!
-
48
And if they are told, "Bow down," they do not.
-
49
Woe on that Day to the deniers!
-
50
Then in what message after this will they believe?
