- Bold, larger (ˈ) = say it strong and a little longer — the stressed syllable.
- Faint = weak and short (a reduced vowel). Don't give every syllable equal weight.
- Tiny 으 · 트 · 스 = barely voiced. English has no vowel there — stop on the consonant.
- Whole word faint (the, of, and, to…) = light and quick in a sentence; stress the content words.
- Small f v θ ð r = sounds Korean doesn't have — f: upper teeth on the lower lip; v: the same, voiced; θ/ð: tongue tip between the teeth; r: tongue curled back, touching nothing.

Surah
About this surah
Classified as revealed in the Meccan period, this surah swears by angels who extract souls violently, draw them out gently and arrange affairs, and says that on the Day of the quaking blast hearts will tremble and eyes be lowered. To those who mock the idea of returning after becoming decayed bones, it replies that a single shout will bring them all onto the open earth. It then tells how Moses was called in the sacred valley of Tuwa and sent to Pharaoh to invite him to purify himself, but Pharaoh proclaimed, 'I am your lord, most high,' and was seized in punishment, a lesson for those who fear God. Pointing to the creation of the sky, earth and mountains, it asks whether man is harder to create, and divides people into those who preferred this world and those who restrained their desires. Asked when the Hour will come, it answers that its end rests with the Lord.

The name The name comes from verse 1, which swears by the angels who extract souls violently.
-
1
By those [angels] who extract [souls] violently,
-
2
and those who draw out [souls] gently,
-
3
and those who glide along swimmingly,
-
4
and those who race ahead, outstripping,
-
5
and those who arrange the affairs!
-
6
On the Day the quaking [blast] will quake,
-
7
followed by the subsequent [one],
-
8
hearts that Day will tremble,
-
9
their eyes humbled.
-
10
They say, "Will we indeed be returned to [our] former state?
-
11
Even when we are decayed bones?"
-
12
They say, "That then would be a losing return!"
-
13
But it will be only a single shout,
-
14
and at once they will be on the open surface [of the earth].
-
15
Has the story of Moses reached you?
-
16
When his Lord called to him in the sacred valley of Tuwa:
-
17
"Go to Pharaoh; indeed he has transgressed.
-
18
And say, 'Would you [like] to purify yourself,
-
19
and that I guide you to your Lord so that you would fear [Him]?'"
-
20
Then he showed him the greatest sign,
-
21
but he denied and disobeyed.
-
22
Then he turned his back, striving [against him].
-
23
And he gathered [his people] and called out,
-
24
and said, "I am your lord, most high."
-
25
So God seized him in exemplary punishment for the last and the first.
-
26
Indeed in that is a lesson for whoever fears [God].
-
27
Which is the harder to create: you, or the sky? He built it,
-
28
He raised its ceiling and proportioned it,
-
29
and darkened its night and brought forth its morning light.
-
30
And the earth, after that, He spread out.
-
31
He brought forth from it its water and its pasture,
-
32
and the mountains He set firmly,
-
33
as provision for you and your livestock.
-
34
But when the great overwhelming calamity comes —
-
35
the Day when man will remember what he strove for,
-
36
and Hellfire will be brought into view for whoever sees —
-
37
then as for the one who transgressed,
-
38
and preferred the life of this world,
-
39
then indeed Hellfire will be [his] refuge.
-
40
But whoever dreaded standing before his Lord and held back the self from its whims,
-
41
then indeed the Garden will be [his] refuge.
-
42
They ask you about the Hour: when is its arrival?
-
43
What have you to do with the mention of it?
-
44
To your Lord is its finality.
-
45
You are only a warner for those who fear it.
-
46
It will be, on the Day they see it, as though they had not remained [in the world] except for an evening or its morning.
