🕊️ Jesus and Mary in the Quran
In the Quran, Jesus is most often called 'Jesus son of Mary' or 'the Messiah'. Mary is the only woman mentioned by name in the Quran, and the angels tell her that God has chosen her, purified her and chosen her above the women of all the worlds. The story of a son given to Mary, whom no man had touched, is told at length in chapters 3 and 19.
The Quran says that Jesus spoke to people from the cradle, and that by God's leave he breathed life into a bird shaped from clay, healed the blind and the leper, and brought the dead back to life. He is portrayed as a messenger to the Children of Israel who confirmed the Torah that came before him and was given the Gospel, containing guidance and light. In God's sight, the Quran says, Jesus is like Adam, whom God formed from dust and then said to him, 'Be.'
The Quran calls Jesus a servant and messenger of God, God's Word conveyed to Mary, and a spirit from Him. One passage states that he was neither killed nor crucified, but that God raised him up to Himself. The verses below gather, by theme, what the text of the Quran says about Jesus and Mary.
