この章について
Classed as a Meccan sura, it opens with Zechariah, old and with a barren wife, calling quietly on his Lord and receiving the news of a son named John. It then tells how Mary withdrew from her people, how God's Spirit came to announce a son to her, and how she gave birth beneath a palm tree, where she was comforted with water and ripe dates. When she returns carrying the child and is reproached, the infant Jesus speaks from the cradle, saying he is a servant of God. Abraham is shown pleading gently with his idol-worshipping father, followed by brief mentions of Moses and Aaron, Ishmael and Idris. The later verses answer those who doubt that the dead will be raised and firmly reject the claim that the Most Gracious has taken a son. The divine name 'the Most Gracious' recurs throughout the sura.
- Zechariah and John
- Mary and Jesus's birth
- Abraham and his father
- The Most Gracious
- Doubts about resurrection
名前の由来 It is named after Mary, whose story of conceiving and giving birth to Jesus (verses 16–34) stands at the heart of the sura.

1
Kaf Ha Ya Ayn Sad.
-
2
[This is] a recollection of your Lord's mercy to His servant Zechariah,
-
3
when he called out to his Lord in a hushed call.
-
4
He said, “My Lord, my bones have grown feeble and my head is ablaze with white hair, yet never, my Lord, have I been left disappointed in calling upon You.
-
5
I fear [what] my kinsmen [will do] after me, and my wife is barren. So grant me from Yourself an heir,
-
6
who will inherit from me and inherit from the family of Jacob; and make him, my Lord, one who pleases [You].”
-
7
“Zechariah, We give you good news of a boy whose name is John. We have not given that name to anyone before.”
-
8
He said, “My Lord, how can I have a boy when my wife is barren and I have reached extreme old age?”
-
9
He said, “So it will be. Your Lord says, ‘It is easy for Me. I created you before, when you were nothing.’”
-
10
He said, “My Lord, give me a sign.” He said, “Your sign is that you will not speak to people for three nights, though you are sound.”
-
11
So he came out to his people from the sanctuary and signalled to them, “Glorify [God] morning and evening.”
-
12
“John, hold fast to the Book.” And We gave him wisdom while still a child,
-
13
and tenderness from Us, and purity; and he was God-fearing,
-
14
and dutiful to his parents, and he was not arrogant or disobedient.
-
15
Peace be upon him the day he was born, the day he dies, and the day he is raised back to life.
-
16
Recall in the Book [the story of] Mary, when she went apart from her people to a place in the east
-
17
and set a screen between herself and them. Then We sent to her Our Spirit, who appeared before her as a well-formed man.
-
18
She said, “I seek refuge from you with the Most Gracious, if you fear [Him].”
-
19
He said, “I am only a messenger of your Lord, [sent] to grant you a pure boy.”
-
20
She said, “How can I have a boy when no man has touched me, and I have not been unchaste?”
-
21
He said, “So it will be. Your Lord says, ‘It is easy for Me, so that We may make him a sign to people and a mercy from Us.’ It is a matter already decreed.”
-
22
So she conceived him and withdrew with him to a distant place.
-
23
Then the pains of labour drove her to the trunk of a palm tree. She said, “I wish I had died before this and become something utterly forgotten.”
-
24
Then he called to her from below her, “Do not grieve. Your Lord has placed a stream beneath you.
-
25
Pull the palm trunk towards you and shake it, and ripe, fresh dates will fall down on you.
-
26
So eat and drink and be at peace. And if you see any person, say, ‘I have vowed a fast to the Most Gracious, so today I will not speak to any human being.’”
-
27
Then she came to her people carrying him. They said, “Mary, you have done an outrageous thing!
-
28
Sister of Aaron, your father was not an evil man, nor was your mother unchaste.”
-
29
So she pointed to him. They said, “How can we speak to one who is an infant in the cradle?”
-
30
He said, “Truly I am a servant of God, to whom He has given the Book, and whom He has made a prophet.
-
31
He has made me blessed wherever I may be, and has enjoined upon me the prayer and the alms as long as I live,
-
32
and [made me] dutiful to my mother, and He has not made me arrogant or wretched.
-
33
Peace be upon me the day I was born, the day I die, and the day I am raised back to life.”
-
34
That is Jesus son of Mary: a statement of the truth, about which they dispute.
-
35
It is not for God to take a son. Glory be to Him! When He decrees a matter, He only says to it, “Be,” and it is.
-
36
[Jesus said,] “My Lord and your Lord alike is God, so serve Him: here is a path that is straight.”
-
37
Yet the factions differed among themselves. So woe to those who disbelieve when they witness a tremendous Day!
-
38
How well they will hear and how well they will see on the Day they come to Us! But today the wrongdoers are in clear error.
-
39
Warn them of the Day of Regret, when the matter will be settled, while they are heedless and do not believe.
-
40
It is We who will inherit the earth and all who are on it, and to Us they will be returned.
-
41
And mention in the Book Abraham. He was a man of truth, a prophet,
-
42
when he said to his father, “Father, why do you worship what neither hears nor sees, and cannot help you at all?
-
43
Father, knowledge has come to me that has not come to you, so follow me; I will guide you to an even path.
-
44
Father, do not worship Satan. Satan has been ever disobedient to the Most Gracious.
-
45
Father, I fear that a punishment from the Most Gracious will touch you, and that you will become an ally of Satan.”
-
46
He said, “Do you turn away from my gods, Abraham? If you do not stop, I will surely stone you. Leave me for a long while!”
-
47
He said, “Peace be upon you. I will ask my Lord to forgive you; He has always been gracious to me.
-
48
I will withdraw from you and from what you call upon besides God, and I will call upon my Lord. Perhaps in calling upon my Lord I will not be left disappointed.”
-
49
So when he had withdrawn from them and from what they worshipped besides God, We granted him Isaac and Jacob, and each of them We made a prophet.
-
50
We granted them of Our mercy, and We gave them a lofty reputation for truthfulness.
-
51
And mention in the Book Moses. He was one chosen, and he was a messenger and a prophet.
-
52
From the right side of the Mount We called out to him, and We drew him close to speak with him in private.
-
53
And out of Our mercy We granted him his brother Aaron as a prophet.
-
54
And mention in the Book Ishmael. He was true to his promise, and he was a messenger and a prophet.
-
55
He used to enjoin on his household the prayer and the alms, and he was pleasing to his Lord.
-
56
And mention in the Book Idris. He was a man of truth, a prophet.
-
57
And We raised him to a high station.
-
58
These are the ones God has favoured among the prophets, from the descendants of Adam, and of those We carried with Noah, and from the descendants of Abraham and Israel, and of those We guided and chose. Whenever the verses of the Most Gracious were recited to them, they fell down prostrating and weeping.
-
59
But after them came successors who neglected the prayer and followed their desires. They will meet ruin,
-
60
except those who repent, believe and do good deeds. Those will enter the Garden and will not be wronged in the least:
-
61
Gardens of Eden, which the Most Gracious has promised His servants in the unseen. His promise will certainly come to pass.
-
62
There they will hear no idle talk, only “Peace.” And there they will have their provision morning and evening.
-
63
That is the Garden which We give as an inheritance to those of Our servants who were God-fearing.
-
64
[The angels say,] “We do not descend except by the command of your Lord. To Him belongs what is before us, what is behind us, and what is in between. Your Lord is never forgetful,
-
65
[He is] Lord of the heavens and the earth and whatever lies between them. Serve Him, then, and hold firm in serving Him. Do you know any who could be named alongside Him?”
-
66
Man says, “When I am dead, will I really be brought out alive?”
-
67
Does the human being not recall that We created him earlier, when he was not anything at all?
-
68
By your Lord, We will surely gather them together with the devils, then We will bring them around Hell on their knees.
-
69
Then We will pull out from every group whichever of them was most defiant towards the Most Gracious.
-
70
Then We know best those who most deserve to burn in it.
-
71
There is none of you who will not come to it. That is, for your Lord, a decree that must be fulfilled.
-
72
Then We will rescue those who were mindful of God and leave the wrongdoers in it on their knees.
-
73
When Our clear verses are recited to them, those who disbelieve say to those who believe, “Which of the two parties is better in position and finer in company?”
-
74
Yet how many generations We destroyed before them who were finer in possessions and appearance!
-
75
Say, “Whoever is in error, the Most Gracious will extend [the time] for him, until, when they see what they were promised, either the punishment or the Hour, they will know who is worse in position and weaker in forces.”
-
76
Those who follow guidance, God gives them more guidance. In your Lord's sight, the righteous deeds that last are best in recompense and best in their final return.
-
77
Have you considered the one who rejects Our signs and declares, “I am sure to be given riches and children”?
-
78
Has he looked into the unseen, or has he taken a covenant from the Most Gracious?
-
79
No indeed! We will record what he says and extend the punishment for him on and on.
-
80
We will inherit from him what he speaks of, and he will come to Us alone.
-
81
They have taken gods besides God so that they might be a source of strength for them.
-
82
No indeed! They will deny their worship and will turn against them.
-
83
Do you not see that We have sent the devils against the disbelievers, inciting them on and on?
-
84
So do not be in haste against them; We are only counting [their days] for them.
-
85
On the Day We gather the God-fearing to the Most Gracious as honoured guests,
-
86
and drive the guilty to Hell like a thirsty herd,
-
87
none will have the power of intercession except one who has taken a covenant from the Most Gracious.
-
88
They say, “The Most Gracious has taken a son.”
-
89
You have certainly put forward a monstrous thing,
-
90
by which the heavens are almost torn apart, the earth split open, and the mountains collapse in ruin,
-
91
that they ascribe a son to the Most Gracious.
-
92
It is not fitting for the Most Gracious to take a son.
-
93
There is no one in the heavens and the earth but will come to the Most Gracious as a servant.
-
94
He has encompassed them and counted them precisely,
-
95
and on the Day of Resurrection each of them will come before Him on his own.
-
96
Those who believe and do good deeds, the Most Gracious will grant them love.
-
97
We have made this easy in your own tongue so that you may give good news by it to the God-fearing and warn by it a contentious people.
-
98
How many generations We destroyed before them! Can you perceive a single one of them, or hear from them even a whisper?
