この章について
The surah begins with the letters Ya Sin and, swearing by the wise Quran, affirms that the Prophet is one of the messengers on a straight path. It then tells of a town that rejected the messengers sent to it, and of a man who came running from the far end of the city urging his people to follow them, and who was told to enter the Garden. The middle section presents signs: dead earth brought to life, everything created in pairs, night stripped of daylight, the sun and moon each floating in its orbit, and the laden ship. It describes the Trumpet raising people from their graves, the companions of the Garden at rest, the guilty set apart, and a day when mouths are sealed and hands and feet testify. It closes by answering the question of who can revive crumbled bones: the One who made them the first time, whose command is only to say “Be,” and it is.
- The Messenger's mission
- The town and its messengers
- Signs in nature
- Resurrection and judgment
- Power to create anew
名前の由来 It is named after the two Arabic letters Ya and Sin that open it in verse 1; the text does not explain their meaning.

1
Ya Sin.
-
2
By the wise Quran,
-
3
you are truly one of the messengers,
-
4
on a straight path.
-
5
[It is] a revelation from the Almighty, the Most Merciful,
-
6
so that you may warn a people whose forefathers were not warned, and so they are heedless.
-
7
The word has come true against most of them, so they do not believe.
-
8
We have put shackles around their necks up to the chins, so their heads are forced up.
-
9
And We have placed a barrier before them and a barrier behind them, and We have covered them over, so they do not see.
-
10
It is the same for them whether you warn them or do not warn them; they will not believe.
-
11
You can only warn one who follows the Reminder and fears the Most Gracious unseen. So give him good news of forgiveness and a generous reward.
-
12
It is We who give life to the dead, and We record what they have sent ahead and the traces they leave behind. Everything We have accounted for in a clear register.
-
13
Present to them, as an example, the people of the town to which the messengers came.
-
14
When We sent to them two, but they denied them both, so We reinforced [them] with a third, and they said, “We have been sent to you.”
-
15
They said, “You are only human beings like us, and the Most Gracious has not sent down anything. You are only lying.”
-
16
They replied, “Our Lord knows we are truly messengers sent to you,
-
17
and our duty is only to deliver [the message] clearly.”
-
18
They said, “We see you as a bad omen. If you do not stop, we will surely stone you, and a painful punishment will surely touch you from us.”
-
19
They said, “Your omen is with you. [Do you call it an omen] if you are reminded? No, you are a people who transgress all bounds.”
-
20
Then from the farthest part of the city a man came hurrying. “My people,” he said, “follow the messengers.
-
21
Follow those who ask no reward of you and who are rightly guided.
-
22
Why should I not worship the One who created me, and to whom you will be returned?
-
23
Should I take gods besides Him? If the Most Gracious intends harm for me, their intercession will not avail me at all, nor can they save me.
-
24
I would then be in clear error.
-
25
I have believed in your Lord, so listen to me.”
-
26
It was said, “Enter the Garden.” He said, “If only my people knew
-
27
how my Lord has forgiven me and placed me among the honored!”
-
28
After him We did not send down upon his people any host from the sky, nor did We need to send any.
-
29
It was only a single blast, and at once they were extinguished.
-
30
Alas for [such] servants! Never did a messenger come to them but they mocked him.
-
31
Do they not see how many generations before them We have destroyed, who never come back to them?
-
32
And all of them, every one, will be brought before Us.
-
33
A sign for them is the dead earth: We give it life and bring forth grain from it, from which they eat.
-
34
We have placed in it gardens of date palms and grapevines, and We have caused springs to gush forth in it,
-
35
so that they may eat of its fruit, though their own hands did not make it. Will they not then be grateful?
-
36
Glory be to the One who created all the pairs — of what the earth grows, of themselves, and of what they do not know.
-
37
A sign for them is the night: We strip the daylight from it, and at once they are in darkness.
-
38
And the sun runs to its resting place. That is the decree of the Almighty, the All-Knowing.
-
39
And the moon — We have determined stations for it, until it returns like an old, withered palm stalk.
-
40
It is not for the sun to overtake the moon, nor does the night outrun the day. Each floats in an orbit.
-
41
A sign for them is that We carried their offspring in the laden ship,
-
42
and We have created for them the like of it, on which they ride.
-
43
If We willed, We could drown them; then there would be no one to answer their cry, nor would they be rescued —
-
44
except as a mercy from Us, and as enjoyment for a while.
-
45
When they are told, “Beware of what is before you and what is behind you, so that you may receive mercy,” [they turn away].
-
46
Whenever any of their Lord's signs reaches them, they turn their backs on it.
-
47
And when it is said to them, “Give from what God has bestowed on you,” the disbelievers reply to the believers, “Are we to feed those whom God could have fed Himself if He wished? You are clearly in error.”
-
48
And they say, “When will this promise be [fulfilled], if you are truthful?”
-
49
They await nothing but a single blast, which will seize them while they are disputing.
-
50
Then they will not be able to make any bequest, nor will they return to their families.
-
51
The Trumpet will be blown, and at once they will hasten from the graves to their Lord.
-
52
They will say, “Woe to us! Who has raised us from our sleeping place?” [It will be said,] “This is what the Most Gracious promised, and the messengers spoke the truth.”
-
53
It will be only a single blast, and at once they will all be brought before Us.
-
54
Today no soul will be wronged in the least, and you will be repaid only for what you used to do.
-
55
The companions of the Garden today are joyfully occupied —
-
56
they and their spouses, in shade, reclining on raised couches.
-
57
They will have fruit there, and they will have whatever they ask for.
-
58
“Peace” — a word from a Most Merciful Lord.
-
59
“But stand apart today, you guilty ones!
-
60
Did I not enjoin on you, Children of Adam, that you should not worship Satan — he is truly a clear enemy to you —
-
61
and that you should worship Me? This is a straight path.
-
62
He has already led astray a great multitude of you. Did you not use your reason?
-
63
This is Hell, which you were promised.
-
64
Burn in it today because you used to disbelieve.”
-
65
Today We will seal their mouths, and their hands will speak to Us, and their feet will testify to what they used to earn.
-
66
If We willed, We could blot out their eyes; then they would rush to the path, but how could they see?
-
67
And if We willed, We could transform them in their places, so that they could neither go forward nor turn back.
-
68
Whomever We grant long life, We reverse in [his] constitution. Will they not then use their reason?
-
69
We have not taught him poetry, nor would it befit him. This is nothing but a Reminder and a clear Quran,
-
70
so that he may warn whoever is alive, and so that the word may come true against the disbelievers.
-
71
Have they not seen that, among what Our hands have made, We created for them livestock which they own?
-
72
We have tamed them for their use: some serve as their mounts, and some they eat.
-
73
And they have other benefits from them, and drinks. Will they not then be grateful?
-
74
Yet they have taken gods besides God, hoping that they might be helped.
-
75
They cannot help them; rather, [the idolaters] will be brought as troops for them [to the punishment].
-
76
So do not let their words grieve you. We know what they conceal and what they disclose.
-
77
Does man not see that We created him from a drop of fluid? Yet there he is, an open adversary.
-
78
He sets forth an example for Us and forgets his own creation. He says, “Who will give life to bones when they have crumbled to dust?”
-
79
Say, “He who brought them into being the first time will give them life. He knows every creation well,
-
80
[the One] who made fire for you out of the green tree, so that from it you kindle [fire].”
-
81
Can He who created the heavens and the earth not create others like them? Indeed He can — He is the Master Creator, the All-Knowing.
-
82
His command, when He intends something, is only to say to it, “Be,” and it is.
-
83
So glory be to Him in whose hand is the dominion of all things, and to Him you will be returned.
