📿 Prayers in the Quran
Prayers addressed directly to God are woven throughout the Quran. The opening chapter turns into the petition “Guide us along the straight path,” and many other prayers begin with the call “Our Lord” or “My Lord.” Believers ask for good in this world and in the Hereafter, ask not to be taken to task when they forget or make a mistake, and ask that their hearts not deviate after they have been guided.
The Quran also records the prayers of prophets within their stories. Adam and his wife confess that they have wronged themselves and ask for forgiveness; Abraham and Ishmael pray as they raise the foundations of the House; Moses asks God to open his heart and untie the knot from his tongue; Jonah calls out in the darknesses, and Zechariah asks not to be left alone without an heir. In some places the very next verse says that God answered them.
There are prayers of others too: the wife of Pharaoh, the young men who took refuge in the cave, and those who went out to face Goliath, as well as a prayer believers are taught to say for their parents. Where the Quran names the person praying, the note below says so.

The Messenger believes in what has been sent down to him from his Lord, and so do the believers. Each believes in God, His angels, His Books and His messengers. “We make no distinction between any of His messengers.” And they say, “We hear and we obey. [We seek] Your forgiveness, our Lord, and to You is the final return.”

God does not burden any soul beyond its capacity. In its favour is whatever good it has earned, and against it whatever evil it has incurred. “Our Lord, do not take us to task if we forget or make a mistake. Our Lord, do not lay upon us a burden like the one You laid upon those before us. Our Lord, do not burden us with what we have no strength to bear. Pardon us, forgive us and have mercy on us. You are our Protector, so help us against the disbelieving people.”
