🌱 Forgiveness and Repentance
In the Quran God is often called “Most Forgiving, Most Merciful” and “the Ever-Relenting”, the One who keeps accepting repentance. The Quran says that God forgives all sins, and it tells even those who have gone too far against themselves not to despair of God’s mercy.
The Arabic word for repentance, tawbah, carries the sense of turning back, and in the Quran repentance is pictured as recognising a wrong and returning to God. The Quran describes the way: asking forgiveness, not knowingly persisting in what one has done, believing and doing good. For such people, it says, God will even replace their evil deeds with good ones. Adam and his wife, and later Moses, confess that they have wronged themselves and ask for forgiveness, and they stand as examples of that turning.
The Quran also calls people to forgive one another. Those who hold back their anger and pardon others, who overlook faults and make reconciliation, are told that their reward is with God. The verses below follow these themes.
