この章について
The surah states that the Book comes from God and repeatedly calls for worshipping Him with religion devoted sincerely to Him alone. It rejects the claim that other protectors are served only to bring people nearer to God, and recalls how God created people from a single soul and forms them in the womb within three layers of darkness. It asks whether one who stands and prostrates through the night is like one who does not, and whether those who know and those who do not know are alike, and gives the parable of a man owned by quarreling partners compared with a man belonging to one master. It speaks of God taking souls in sleep and returning some, and tells those who have wronged themselves not to despair of God's mercy. The surah ends with the Trumpet, after which disbelievers are driven to Hell in throngs and the God-fearing are led to the Garden in throngs.
- Sincere devotion to God
- Knowledge and understanding
- Parable of rival masters
- Hope in God's mercy
- Judgment in throngs
名前の由来 The name comes from verses 71 and 73, where people are driven to Hell and led to the Garden in groups, or throngs.

1
The sending down of the Book is from God, the Almighty, the All-Wise.
-
2
We have sent down the Book to you with the truth, so worship God, devoting your religion sincerely to Him.
-
3
Surely, sincere devotion belongs to God alone. And those who take protectors besides Him [say], "We worship them only so that they may bring us near to God." God will judge between them concerning that in which they differ. God does not guide anyone who is a liar and an ungrateful disbeliever.
-
4
Had God wished to take a son, He could have chosen whatever He willed from what He creates. Glory be to Him! He is God, the One, the Irresistible.
-
5
He created the heavens and the earth with truth. He wraps the night over the day and wraps the day over the night, and He has made the sun and the moon subservient, each running for an appointed term. Surely He is the Almighty, the Ever-Forgiving.
-
6
He created you from a single soul, then made from it its mate, and He sent down for you eight [head] of livestock in pairs. He creates you in your mothers' wombs, stage after stage, in three layers of darkness. That is God, your Lord. His is the kingdom. There is no god but Him. So how are you turned away?
-
7
If you disbelieve, God has no need of you, yet He does not approve disbelief for His servants. And if you are grateful, He approves it for you. No bearer of burdens will bear the burden of another. Then to your Lord is your return, and He will inform you of what you used to do. He knows well what is in the hearts.
-
8
When harm touches a person, he calls upon his Lord, turning to Him. Then when He bestows on him a favor from Himself, he forgets what he had been calling Him for before, and sets up rivals to God to lead [others] astray from His way. Say, "Enjoy your disbelief for a little while. You are surely one of the companions of the Fire."
-
9
Is one who devoutly obeys during the hours of the night, prostrating and standing, wary of the Hereafter and hoping for the mercy of his Lord [like one who does not]? Say, "Are those who know and those who do not know alike?" Only people of understanding take heed.
-
10
Say, "O My servants who believe, be mindful of your Lord. For those who do good in this world there is good, and God's earth is spacious. Only the patient will be given their reward in full, without measure."
-
11
Say, "I have been commanded to worship God, devoting my religion sincerely to Him,
-
12
and I have been commanded to be the first of the Muslims."
-
13
Say, "I fear the torment of a dreadful Day, should I disobey my Lord."
-
14
Say, "It is God I worship, devoting my religion sincerely to Him.
-
15
So worship whatever you like besides Him." Say, "The real losers are those who will lose themselves and their families on the Day of Resurrection. Truly, that is the clear loss."
-
16
They will have canopies of fire above them and canopies below them. With this God warns His servants: "O My servants, be mindful of Me."
-
17
Those who avoid worshipping false gods and turn to God will have good news. So give good news to My servants,
-
18
who listen to what is said and follow the best of it. They are the ones whom God has guided, and they are the people of understanding.
-
19
Is one against whom the word of punishment has come due [to be saved]? Can you rescue one who is in the Fire?
-
20
But those who are mindful of their Lord will have lofty chambers, with more chambers built above them, beneath which rivers flow. [This is] God's promise; God does not break His promise.
-
21
Have you not seen that God sends down water from the sky, then makes it flow as springs in the earth, then brings forth with it crops of varying colors? Then they wither, and you see them turn yellow, then He makes them crumble into chaff. In that is a reminder for people of understanding.
-
22
Is one whose heart God has opened to Islam, so that he is upon a light from his Lord, [like one whose heart is hardened]? So woe to those whose hearts are hardened against the remembrance of God! They are in clear error.
-
23
God has sent down the finest discourse: a Book consistent in itself, with oft-repeated [teachings], at which the skins of those who fear their Lord shiver; then their skins and their hearts soften to the remembrance of God. That is God's guidance; with it He guides whomever He wills. And whoever God leaves astray will have no guide.
-
24
Is one who must shield himself with his own face from the evil punishment on the Day of Resurrection [like one who is safe]? And it will be said to the wrongdoers, "Taste what you used to earn."
-
25
Those before them denied, so the punishment came upon them from where they did not perceive.
-
26
So God made them taste disgrace in the life of this world, and the punishment of the Hereafter is greater, if only they knew.
-
27
We have set forth for people in this Quran every kind of example, so that they may take heed:
-
28
an Arabic Quran, free of any crookedness, so that they may be mindful of God.
-
29
God sets forth an example: a man owned by quarreling partners, and a man belonging wholly to one man. Are the two alike in comparison? Praise be to God! But most of them do not know.
-
30
You will surely die, and they too will die.
-
31
Then, on the Day of Resurrection, you will argue your cases in the presence of your Lord.
-
32
Who then does greater wrong than one who lies about God and denies the truth when it comes to him? Is there not in Hell a dwelling for the disbelievers?
-
33
And the one who brought the truth and those who affirmed it, they are the God-fearing.
-
34
They will have whatever they wish with their Lord. That is the reward of those who do good,
-
35
so that God may remove from them the worst of what they did and reward them according to the best of what they used to do.
-
36
Is God not sufficient for His servant? Yet they try to frighten you with those [they worship] besides Him. And whoever God leaves astray will have no guide.
-
37
And whoever God guides, none can lead astray. Is God not Almighty, Lord of retribution?
-
38
If you ask them, "Who created the heavens and the earth?" they will surely say, "God." Say, "Have you considered those you call upon besides God? If God intended harm for me, could they remove His harm? Or if He intended mercy for me, could they withhold His mercy?" Say, "God is enough for me. In Him those who trust put their trust."
-
39
Say, "O my people, work according to your position; I too am working. You will come to know
-
40
who will receive a punishment that will disgrace him, and upon whom a lasting punishment will descend."
-
41
We have sent down to you the Book for people with the truth. So whoever is guided, it is for his own good; and whoever goes astray, goes astray only to his own loss. You are not their keeper.
-
42
God takes the souls at the time of their death, and those that have not died during their sleep. Then He keeps those for which He has decreed death and sends the others back until an appointed term. In that are signs for people who reflect.
-
43
Or have they taken intercessors besides God? Say, "Even though they have no power over anything and no understanding?"
-
44
Say, "Intercession belongs to God entirely. The sovereignty of the heavens and the earth is His, and to Him you will then be brought back."
-
45
When God alone is mentioned, the hearts of those who do not believe in the Hereafter recoil with disgust; but when those besides Him are mentioned, they rejoice.
-
46
Say, "O God, Originator of the heavens and the earth, Knower of the unseen and the seen, You will judge between Your servants concerning that in which they used to differ."
-
47
If the wrongdoers had all that is on earth and as much again with it, they would offer it to ransom themselves from the evil punishment on the Day of Resurrection. And there will appear to them from God what they had never reckoned.
-
48
The evils of what they earned will appear to them, and what they used to mock will close in on them.
-
49
When harm touches a person, he calls upon Us; then when We bestow on him a favor from Us, he says, "I was given it only because of [my own] knowledge." No, it is a test, but most of them do not know.
-
50
Those before them said the same, but what they used to earn availed them nothing.
-
51
So the evils of what they earned struck them. And the wrongdoers among these [people] too will be struck by the evils of what they earned, and they cannot escape.
-
52
Do they not know that God extends provision to whomever He wills and restricts [it]? In that are signs for people who believe.
-
53
Say, "O My servants who have transgressed against themselves, do not despair of the mercy of God. God forgives all sins. He is the Most Forgiving, the Most Merciful.
-
54
Turn back to your Lord and surrender yourselves to Him before the punishment reaches you, after which you will find no help.
-
55
And follow the best of what has been sent down to you from your Lord before the punishment comes upon you suddenly while you do not perceive,
-
56
lest a soul should say, 'Alas for me, for what I neglected in regard to God, and I was indeed among the mockers!'
-
57
or should say, 'If only God had guided me, I would have been among the God-fearing!'
-
58
or should say when it sees the punishment, 'If only I had another chance, I would be among those who do good!'"
-
59
"No! My signs did come to you, but you denied them, were arrogant, and were among the disbelievers."
-
60
On the Day of Resurrection you will see those who lied about God with their faces darkened. Is there not in Hell a dwelling for the arrogant?
-
61
And God will deliver those who were mindful of Him to their place of triumph; no evil will touch them, nor will they grieve.
-
62
God has created all things, and all things are in His care.
-
63
To Him belong the keys of the heavens and the earth. And those who disbelieve in the signs of God, it is they who are the losers.
-
64
Say, "Is it other than God that you order me to worship, O ignorant ones?"
-
65
It has been revealed to you and to those before you: "If you associate partners [with God], your deeds will surely come to nothing, and you will surely be among the losers.
-
66
Rather, worship God, and be among the grateful."
-
67
They have not valued God as He truly deserves. On the Day of Resurrection the whole earth will be within His grip, and the heavens will be rolled up in His right hand. Glory be to Him, and exalted is He above the partners they ascribe [to Him]!
-
68
And the Trumpet will be blown, and whoever is in the heavens and whoever is on the earth will fall dead, except whom God wills. Then it will be blown again, and at once they will be standing, looking on.
-
69
And the earth will shine with the light of its Lord, the Record will be laid open, the prophets and the witnesses will be brought forward, and judgement will be passed between them with truth, and they will not be wronged.
-
70
Every soul will be repaid in full for what it did, and He knows best what they do.
-
71
Those who disbelieved will be driven to Hell in throngs. When they reach it, its gates will be opened, and its keepers will say to them, "Did not messengers come to you from among yourselves, reciting to you the verses of your Lord and warning you of the meeting of this Day of yours?" They will say, "Yes, indeed." But the word of punishment has come due against the disbelievers.
-
72
It will be said, "Enter the gates of Hell, to remain there forever." What a wretched dwelling for the arrogant!
-
73
And those who were mindful of their Lord will be led to the Garden in throngs. When they reach it and its gates are opened, its keepers will say to them, "Peace be upon you. You have done well, so enter it, to remain forever."
-
74
They will say, "Praise be to God, who has fulfilled His promise to us and made us inherit the land, so that we may settle in the Garden wherever we wish." How excellent is the reward of those who worked [righteousness]!
-
75
And you will see the angels surrounding the Throne, glorifying the praise of their Lord. Judgement will have been passed between them with truth, and it will be said, "Praise be to God, Lord of all the worlds."
