この章について
The surah opens with praise of God, the Originator of the heavens and the earth, who made angels with wings His messengers. It says that no one can hold back the mercy God opens, and warns against being deceived by worldly life or by Satan. Winds and rain reviving dead land, the fresh and salty seas, and the night, day, sun and moon are offered as signs of resurrection and of God's dominion, and people are reminded that they are in need of God while He is free of all need. A series of contrasts follows — the blind and the seeing, darkness and light, the living and the dead — and the varied colors of mountains, people and animals lead to the statement that those with knowledge truly fear God. It describes three kinds of people who inherit the Book, the Gardens of Eden, and the cry of those in Hell to be let out, and ends by saying that God holds the heavens and earth in place.
- God the Originator
- Human need for God
- Diversity of colors
- Inheritors of the Book
- Garden and Fire contrasted
名前の由来 It is named after verse 1, where God is called the Originator of the heavens and the earth.

-
1
Praise be to God, Originator of the heavens and the earth, who made the angels messengers with wings — two, three, or four. He adds to creation whatever He wills. God has power over all things.
-
2
Whatever mercy God opens up for people, none can withhold it; and whatever He withholds, none can release it after Him. He is the Almighty, the All-Wise.
-
3
People, remember God’s blessing upon you. Is there any creator other than God who provides for you from the sky and the earth? There is no god but Him. How then are you turned away?
-
4
If they deny you, messengers before you were also denied. And to God all matters are returned.
-
5
People! The promise of God is the truth, so do not be beguiled by this worldly life, nor let the great deceiver beguile you about God.
-
6
Satan is your enemy, so take him as an enemy. He only calls his followers so that they will be among the companions of the Blaze.
-
7
Those who disbelieve will have a severe punishment, and those who believe and do righteous deeds will have forgiveness and a great reward.
-
8
Is one whose evil deed has been made to seem fair to him, so that he sees it as good, [like one who is rightly guided]? God lets go astray whomever He wills and guides whomever He wills. So do not let your soul waste away in sorrow over them. God knows well what they do.
-
9
It is God who sends the winds, and they stir up clouds; then We drive them to a dead land and with it give life to the earth after its death. Such will be the Resurrection.
-
10
Whoever desires honor — all honor belongs to God. To Him ascend good words, and righteous deeds He raises up. But those who plot evil deeds will have a severe punishment, and the plotting of such people will come to ruin.
-
11
God created you from dust, then from a drop of fluid, then made you pairs. No female conceives or gives birth except with His knowledge. No one is granted long life, nor is anything taken from his life, except that it is in a Record. That is easy for God.
-
12
The two seas are not alike: this one is fresh, sweet, and pleasant to drink, and that one is salty and bitter. Yet from each you eat tender meat and extract ornaments that you wear. And you see the ships cleaving through it, so that you may seek His bounty, and so that you may be grateful.
-
13
He merges the night into the day and merges the day into the night, and He has made the sun and the moon subservient, each running for a fixed term. That is God, your Lord; His is the dominion. And those you call upon besides Him do not own [even] the thin skin of a date stone.
-
14
If you call upon them, they do not hear your call; and even if they heard, they would not answer you. On the Day of Resurrection they will disown your associating them [with God]. None can inform you like One who is All-Aware.
-
15
People, it is you who are in need of God, and God is the Self-Sufficient, the Praiseworthy.
-
16
If He wills, He can do away with you and bring a new creation.
-
17
And that is not difficult for God.
-
18
No bearer of burdens will bear the burden of another. If one heavily laden calls for [help with] its load, nothing of it will be carried, even by a close relative. You can only warn those who fear their Lord unseen and keep up the prayer. Whoever purifies himself purifies himself only for his own good. And to God is the final return.
-
19
The blind and the seeing are not equal,
-
20
nor are darkness and light,
-
21
nor are shade and scorching heat,
-
22
nor are the living and the dead equal. God makes whomever He wills hear, but you cannot make those in the graves hear.
-
23
You are only a warner.
-
24
We have sent you with the truth as a bearer of good news and a warner. There has never been a community without a warner having passed among them.
-
25
If they deny you, those before them also denied. Their messengers came to them with clear proofs, with scriptures, and with the enlightening Book.
-
26
Then I seized those who disbelieved — and how [terrible] was My rejection [of them]!
-
27
Do you not see that God sends down water from the sky, and with it We bring forth fruits of varying colors? And in the mountains are streaks, white and red, of varying colors, and others jet black.
-
28
And likewise among people, animals, and livestock there are varying colors. Of His servants, only those who have knowledge truly fear God. God is Almighty, Most Forgiving.
-
29
Those who recite the Book of God, keep up the prayer, and spend secretly and openly out of what We have provided for them hope for a trade that will never fail,
-
30
so that He may pay them their rewards in full and give them more out of His bounty. He is Most Forgiving, Most Appreciative.
-
31
What We have revealed to you of the Book is the truth, confirming what came before it. God is fully aware of His servants, All-Seeing.
-
32
Then We gave the Book as an inheritance to those We chose from among Our servants. Among them is one who wrongs himself, among them is one who keeps to a middle course, and among them is one who is foremost in good deeds by God’s permission. That is the great bounty —
-
33
Gardens of Eden, which they will enter. They will be adorned there with bracelets of gold and pearls, and their garments there will be silk.
-
34
They will say, “Praise be to God, who has removed all sorrow from us. Our Lord is indeed Most Forgiving, Most Appreciative,
-
35
who out of His bounty has settled us in the Home of lasting abode, where no toil touches us and no weariness touches us.”
-
36
But those who disbelieve will have the fire of Hell. It will not be decreed for them to die, nor will its punishment be lightened for them. Thus We repay every ungrateful one.
-
37
They will cry out there, “Our Lord, take us out and we will do righteous deeds, other than what we used to do.” [It will be said,] “Did We not give you a life long enough for whoever would take heed to take heed? And the warner came to you. So taste [it], for the wrongdoers have no helper.”
-
38
God is the Knower of the unseen of the heavens and the earth. He knows well what is in the hearts.
-
39
It is He who made you successors on the earth. Whoever disbelieves will bear [the burden of] his disbelief. Their disbelief only increases the disbelievers in loathing in the sight of their Lord, and their disbelief only increases the disbelievers in loss.
-
40
Say, “Have you considered your ‘partners’ whom you call upon besides God? Show me what they have created of the earth. Or do they have a share in the heavens? Or have We given them a Book so that they stand on clear proof from it?” No, the wrongdoers promise one another nothing but delusion.
-
41
God holds the heavens and the earth lest they cease [to exist]. And if they were to cease, no one could hold them after Him. He is Forbearing, Most Forgiving.
-
42
They swore by God their most solemn oaths that if a warner came to them, they would be better guided than any of the [other] communities. But when a warner came to them, it only increased them in aversion,
-
43
[out of] arrogance in the land and plotting of evil. But evil plotting encompasses none but its own authors. Do they then await anything but the way [God dealt with] the former peoples? You will find no change in God’s way, and you will find no alteration in God’s way.
-
44
Have they not traveled through the land and seen what the end of those before them was? They were stronger than them in power. Nothing in the heavens or on the earth can frustrate God. He is All-Knowing, All-Powerful.
-
45
If God were to take people to task for what they have earned, He would not leave a single creature on the face of [the earth]. But He defers them until a fixed term. And when their term comes — God sees His servants well.
