关于本章
Classed as a Medinan sura, it opens with the command to fulfil contracts and goes on to rulings about lawful and forbidden food, hunting during pilgrimage, food and marriage with the People of the Book, and washing before prayer. It recalls the covenants taken from the Children of Israel and from the Christians, then tells how Moses's people refused to enter the Holy Land and wandered for forty years, and how one of Adam's two sons killed the other. From that story comes the statement that killing one soul is like killing all of humankind, and saving one is like saving all. The Torah, the Gospel and the Quran are each described as guidance and light, and believers are told to avoid wine and gambling. The sura ends with Jesus's disciples asking for a table of food from heaven, and with a scene on the Last Day in which Jesus answers God about what he taught.
- Keeping contracts
- Food and purity laws
- Torah, Gospel and Quran
- The two sons of Adam
- Jesus and the disciples
章名由来 The name comes from verses 112–115, where Jesus's disciples ask that a table spread with food be sent down from heaven.

-
1
O you who believe, fulfil your contracts. Grazing livestock are made lawful for you, except what is [now] being recited to you, but hunting is not lawful while you are in the state of pilgrim sanctity. God decrees whatever He wills.
-
2
O you who believe, do not violate the sacred rites of God, nor the sacred month, nor the sacrificial animals, nor the garlanded [offerings], nor those heading for the Sacred House seeking bounty from their Lord and His good pleasure. When you leave the state of pilgrim sanctity, you may hunt. Do not let hatred of a people who barred you from the Sacred Mosque provoke you into transgression. Help one another in righteousness and mindfulness of God, and do not help one another in sin and aggression. Be mindful of God; God is severe in punishment.
-
3
Forbidden to you are carrion, blood, the flesh of swine, what has been dedicated to other than God, [an animal] strangled, beaten to death, killed by a fall, gored to death, or partly eaten by a wild beast, unless you slaughter it [while still alive], and what has been sacrificed on stone altars. [Forbidden also is] seeking decisions by divining arrows. That is defiance [of God]. Today those who disbelieve have despaired of [defeating] your religion, so do not fear them, but fear Me. Today I have perfected your religion for you, completed My favour upon you, and chosen Islam as your religion. But whoever is forced by severe hunger, with no inclination to sin, then God is Most Forgiving, Most Merciful.
-
4
They ask you what is lawful for them. Say, ‘Lawful to you are all good things, and [the game caught by] the hunting animals you have trained, teaching them as God has taught you. So eat of what they catch for you, and mention the name of God over it. Be mindful of God; God is swift in reckoning.’
-
5
Today all good things are made lawful for you. The food of those who were given the Book is lawful for you, and your food is lawful for them. And [lawful to you in marriage] are chaste women from among the believers and chaste women from among those who were given the Book before you, when you have given them their dowries, taking them in honest wedlock, not in fornication nor as secret lovers. Whoever rejects faith, his deeds have come to nothing, and in the Hereafter he will be among the losers.
-
6
O you who believe, when you rise for the prayer, wash your faces and your hands up to the elbows, wipe your heads, and [wash] your feet up to the ankles. If you are in a state of major impurity, purify yourselves. If you are ill, or on a journey, or one of you has come from relieving himself, or you have touched women, and you find no water, then seek clean earth and wipe your faces and hands with it. God does not wish to place any hardship on you, but He wishes to purify you and to complete His favour upon you, so that you may be grateful.
-
7
Remember God's favour upon you and the covenant He made with you, when you said, ‘We hear and we obey.’ Be mindful of God; God knows well what is in the hearts.
-
8
O you who believe, stand firm for God as witnesses in justice, and do not let hatred of a people lead you to be unjust. Be just; that is nearer to mindfulness of God. Be mindful of God; God is aware of what you do.
-
9
God has promised those who believe and do righteous deeds that for them there is forgiveness and a great reward.
-
10
But those who disbelieve and deny Our signs, they are the companions of the blazing Fire.
-
11
O you who believe, remember God's favour upon you when a people resolved to stretch out their hands against you, and He held back their hands from you. Be mindful of God, and in God let the believers put their trust.
-
12
God took a covenant from the Children of Israel, and We raised up from among them twelve leaders. God said, ‘I am with you. If you establish the prayer, give the alms, believe in My messengers and support them, and lend God a goodly loan, I will surely wipe out your misdeeds and admit you into Gardens beneath which rivers flow. But whoever of you disbelieves after that has strayed from the right way.’
-
13
Then, because they broke their covenant, We cursed them and made their hearts hard. They twist words from their proper places and have forgotten a portion of what they were reminded of. You will not cease to discover treachery from them, except a few of them. So pardon them and overlook [their faults]. God loves those who do good.
-
14
And from those who say, ‘We are Christians,’ We took their covenant, but they forgot a portion of what they were reminded of. So We stirred up enmity and hatred among them until the Day of Resurrection, and God will inform them of what they used to do.
-
15
O People of the Book, Our Messenger has come to you, making clear to you much of what you used to conceal of the Book, and passing over much. There has come to you from God a light and a clear Book,
-
16
by which God guides those who seek His good pleasure to the ways of peace, brings them out of darkness into light by His leave, and guides them to a straight path.
-
17
Those who say, ‘God is the Messiah, son of Mary,’ have certainly disbelieved. Say, ‘Who then could do anything against God if He wished to destroy the Messiah, son of Mary, and his mother, and everyone on earth altogether?’ To God belongs the dominion of the heavens and the earth and all that is between them. He creates whatever He wills, and God has power over all things.
-
18
The Jews and the Christians say, ‘We are the children of God and His beloved ones.’ Say, ‘Then why does He punish you for your sins?’ No, you are human beings among those He has created. He forgives whom He wills and punishes whom He wills. To God belongs the dominion of the heavens and the earth and all that is between them, and to Him is the final return.
-
19
O People of the Book, Our Messenger has come to you, making things clear to you after an interval [in the succession] of messengers, lest you say, ‘No bearer of good tidings and no warner came to us.’ Now a bearer of good tidings and a warner has come to you. God has power over all things.
-
20
[Remember] when Moses said to his people, ‘My people, remember God's favour upon you when He placed prophets among you, made you kings, and gave you what He had not given anyone else in the worlds.
-
21
My people, go into the Holy Land that God has decreed for you, and do not turn your backs, lest you end up as losers.’
-
22
They said, ‘Moses, there is a people of tyrants in it, and we will never enter it until they leave it. If they leave it, then we will enter.’
-
23
Two men among those who feared [God], whom God had blessed, said, ‘Go in upon them through the gate. Once you have entered it, you will be victorious. Put your trust in God, if you are believers.’
-
24
They said, ‘Moses, we will never enter it as long as they remain in it. So go, you and your Lord, and fight; we will stay sitting right here.’
-
25
He said, ‘My Lord, I have power over no one but myself and my brother, so separate us from these defiant people.’
-
26
[God] said, ‘Then it is forbidden to them for forty years; they will wander about in the land. So do not grieve over the defiant people.’
-
27
Recite to them in truth the story of the two sons of Adam, when they each offered a sacrifice. It was accepted from one of them but not from the other. [The latter] said, ‘I will surely kill you.’ [The other] said, ‘God accepts only from the God-fearing.
-
28
If you stretch out your hand against me to kill me, I will not stretch out my hand against you to kill you. I fear God, the Lord of all the worlds.
-
29
I would rather you bear my sin and your own sin, and so become one of the companions of the Fire. That is the recompense of the wrongdoers.’
-
30
Then his soul made it seem easy to him to kill his brother, so he killed him and became one of the losers.
-
31
Then God sent a raven scratching up the ground, to show him how to hide his brother's corpse. He said, ‘Woe to me! Am I unable even to be like this raven and hide my brother's corpse?’ And he became one of the remorseful.
-
32
Because of that, We decreed for the Children of Israel that whoever kills a soul, unless it be for [killing] a soul or for spreading corruption in the land, it is as if he had killed all of mankind; and whoever saves a life, it is as if he had saved all of mankind. Our messengers came to them with clear proofs, yet even after that many of them commit excesses in the land.
-
33
The recompense of those who wage war against God and His Messenger and strive to spread corruption in the land is only that they be killed, or crucified, or have their hands and feet cut off on opposite sides, or be banished from the land. That is a disgrace for them in this world, and in the Hereafter they will have a tremendous punishment,
-
34
except those who repent before you overpower them. Know that God is Most Forgiving, Most Merciful.
-
35
O you who believe, be mindful of God, seek the means of drawing near to Him, and strive in His cause, so that you may succeed.
-
36
As for those who disbelieve, even if they had all that is on earth and as much again, to ransom themselves with it from the punishment of the Day of Resurrection, it would not be accepted from them. For them there is a painful punishment.
-
37
They will wish to get out of the Fire, but they will never get out of it. For them there is a lasting punishment.
-
38
As for the thief, male or female, cut off their hands as a recompense for what they have earned, an exemplary punishment from God. God is Almighty, All-Wise.
-
39
But whoever repents after his wrongdoing and makes amends, God will turn to him in forgiveness. God is Most Forgiving, Most Merciful.
-
40
Do you not realise that the kingdom of the heavens and the earth is God's? He torments whomever He wills and pardons whomever He wills. God is capable of everything.
-
41
O Messenger, do not let those who hasten into disbelief grieve you, those who say with their mouths, ‘We believe,’ while their hearts do not believe, and those who are Jews. They listen eagerly to lies, and listen to other people who have not come to you. They twist words from their proper places, saying, ‘If you are given this, accept it, but if you are not given it, beware.’ Whomever God intends to put to the test, you will be able to do nothing for him against God. They are those whose hearts God has not intended to purify. For them there is disgrace in this world, and in the Hereafter a tremendous punishment.
-
42
They listen eagerly to lies and devour what is unlawful. If they come to you, judge between them or turn away from them. If you turn away from them, they cannot harm you in the least. But if you judge, judge between them with justice. God loves those who act justly.
-
43
But how can they make you their judge when they have the Torah, in which is God's judgement? Yet even after that they turn away. They are not believers.
-
44
We sent down the Torah, in which is guidance and light. By it the prophets who submitted [to God] judged for those who were Jews, as did the rabbis and the learned, by what they were entrusted to preserve of God's Book, and they were witnesses to it. So do not fear people, but fear Me, and do not sell My verses for a small price. Whoever does not judge by what God has sent down, it is they who are the disbelievers.
-
45
In it We prescribed for them: a life for a life, an eye for an eye, a nose for a nose, an ear for an ear, a tooth for a tooth, and for wounds, equal retribution. But whoever forgoes it as charity, it will be an expiation for him. Whoever does not judge by what God has sent down, it is they who are the wrongdoers.
-
46
And in their footsteps We sent Jesus son of Mary, confirming the Torah that had come before him, and We gave him the Gospel, in which is guidance and light, confirming the Torah that had come before it, and as guidance and admonition for the God-fearing.
-
47
Let the people of the Gospel judge by what God has sent down in it. Whoever does not judge by what God has sent down, it is they who are the defiantly disobedient.
-
48
We have sent down to you the Book with the truth, confirming the Scripture that came before it and as a guardian over it. So judge between them by what God has sent down, and do not follow their desires away from the truth that has come to you. For each of you We have appointed a law and a way. Had God willed, He would have made you a single community, but [He did not] so that He may test you in what He has given you. So race one another in good deeds. To God you will all return, and He will inform you about that in which you used to differ.
-
49
So judge between them by what God has sent down, do not follow their desires, and beware of them lest they lure you away from some of what God has sent down to you. If they turn away, know that God intends to afflict them for some of their sins. Many people are indeed defiantly disobedient.
-
50
Is it the judgement of [the age of] ignorance that they seek? Who is better than God in judgement, for a people who are certain [in faith]?
-
51
O you who believe, do not take the Jews and the Christians as allies; they are allies of one another. Whoever among you takes them as allies is one of them. God does not guide the wrongdoing people.
-
52
You see those in whose hearts is a sickness hastening to them, saying, ‘We fear that a turn of fortune may strike us.’ But perhaps God will bring victory or some command from Himself, and then they will become regretful over what they had concealed within themselves.
-
53
And those who believe will say, ‘Are these the ones who swore by God their most solemn oaths that they were with you?’ Their deeds have come to nothing, and they have become losers.
-
54
O you who believe, whoever of you turns back from his religion, God will bring a people whom He loves and who love Him, humble towards the believers, stern towards the disbelievers, striving in the cause of God and not fearing the blame of any critic. That is the bounty of God, which He gives to whom He wills. God is All-Encompassing, All-Knowing.
-
55
Your ally is none but God and His Messenger and those who believe, who establish the prayer and give the alms, and who bow down [in worship].
-
56
Whoever takes God, His Messenger and those who believe as allies, then surely the party of God will be victorious.
-
57
O you who believe, do not take as allies those who take your religion in mockery and play, from among those who were given the Book before you, and the disbelievers. Be mindful of God, if you are believers.
-
58
When you call to the prayer, they take it in mockery and play. That is because they are a people who do not use reason.
-
59
Say, ‘O People of the Book, do you resent us for anything other than that we believe in God and in what has been sent down to us and what was sent down before, and that most of you are defiantly disobedient?’
-
60
Say, ‘Shall I tell you of what is worse than that as a recompense from God? Those whom God has cursed and with whom He is angry, some of whom He made into apes and swine, and who worshipped false deities. They are worse in position and further astray from the right way.’
-
61
When they come to you, they say, ‘We believe.’ But they entered with disbelief and they left with it. God knows best what they were concealing.
-
62
You see many of them hastening into sin and aggression and devouring what is unlawful. How evil is what they have been doing!
-
63
Why do the rabbis and the learned not forbid them from their sinful speech and their devouring of what is unlawful? How evil is what they have been doing!
-
64
The Jews say, ‘God's hand is chained.’ It is their hands that are chained, and they are cursed for what they say. No, both His hands are outstretched; He gives as He wills. What has been sent down to you from your Lord will surely increase many of them in transgression and disbelief. We have cast enmity and hatred among them until the Day of Resurrection. Every time they kindle a fire for war, God puts it out. They strive to spread corruption in the land, and God does not love those who spread corruption.
-
65
If only the People of the Book had believed and been mindful of God, We would have wiped out their misdeeds and admitted them into the Gardens of Bliss.
-
66
If only they had upheld the Torah and the Gospel and what has been sent down to them from their Lord, they would have eaten [plenty] from above them and from beneath their feet. Among them is a moderate community, but many of them, evil is what they do.
-
67
O Messenger, convey what has been sent down to you from your Lord. If you do not, then you will not have conveyed His message. God will protect you from people. God does not guide the disbelieving people.
-
68
Say, ‘O People of the Book, you have nothing [to stand on] until you uphold the Torah and the Gospel and what has been sent down to you from your Lord.’ What has been sent down to you from your Lord will surely increase many of them in transgression and disbelief. So do not grieve over the disbelieving people.
-
69
Those who believe, and those who are Jews, and the Sabians, and the Christians, whoever believes in God and the Last Day and does righteous deeds, no fear will be upon them, nor will they grieve.
-
70
We took a covenant from the Children of Israel and sent messengers to them. Whenever a messenger came to them with what their souls did not desire, some they denied and some they killed.
-
71
They thought there would be no trial, so they became blind and deaf. Then God turned to them in mercy, yet again many of them became blind and deaf. God sees what they do.
-
72
Those who say, ‘God is the Messiah, son of Mary,’ have certainly disbelieved. The Messiah [himself] said, ‘Children of Israel, worship God, my Lord and your Lord.’ Whoever associates partners with God, God has forbidden him the Garden, and his refuge will be the Fire. The wrongdoers will have no helpers.
-
73
Those who say, ‘God is the third of three,’ have certainly disbelieved. There is no god except one God. If they do not desist from what they say, a painful punishment will surely afflict those of them who disbelieve.
-
74
Will they not turn to God in repentance and ask His forgiveness? God is Most Forgiving, Most Merciful.
-
75
The Messiah, son of Mary, was no more than a messenger; messengers had passed away before him. His mother was a woman of truth. They both used to eat food. See how We make the signs clear to them, then see how they are turned away!
-
76
Say, ‘Do you worship besides God what has no power to harm or benefit you, when God is the All-Hearing, the All-Knowing?’
-
77
Say, ‘O People of the Book, do not go to excess in your religion beyond the truth, and do not follow the desires of a people who went astray before, led many astray, and strayed from the right way.’
-
78
Those who disbelieved among the Children of Israel were cursed by the tongue of David and of Jesus son of Mary. That was because they disobeyed and kept transgressing.
-
79
They did not forbid one another from the wrong they committed. How evil is what they used to do!
-
80
You see many of them taking the disbelievers as allies. How evil is what their souls have sent ahead for them, so that God is displeased with them, and in the punishment they will abide forever.
-
81
Had they believed in God and the Prophet and what was sent down to him, they would not have taken them as allies. But many of them are defiantly disobedient.
-
82
You will surely find the most intense in enmity towards those who believe to be the Jews and those who associate partners [with God]. And you will surely find the nearest in affection to those who believe to be those who say, ‘We are Christians.’ That is because among them are priests and monks, and because they are not arrogant.
-
83
When they hear what has been sent down to the Messenger, you see their eyes overflowing with tears because of the truth they recognise. They say, ‘Our Lord, we believe, so record us among the witnesses.
-
84
Why should we not believe in God and in the truth that has come to us, when we long for our Lord to admit us among the righteous people?’
-
85
So God rewarded them for what they said with Gardens beneath which rivers flow, abiding there forever. That is the recompense of those who do good.
-
86
But those who disbelieve and deny Our signs, they are the companions of the blazing Fire.
-
87
You who believe, do not declare unlawful the wholesome things God has permitted you, and do not overstep the limits. God has no love for those who overstep.
-
88
Eat of what God has provided for you, lawful and good, and be mindful of God, in whom you believe.
-
89
God will not take you to task for what is unintentional in your oaths, but He will take you to task for the oaths you have firmly made. Its expiation is feeding ten needy people from the average of what you feed your own families, or clothing them, or freeing a slave. Whoever cannot find [the means] must fast for three days. That is the expiation for your oaths when you have sworn [and broken them]. Keep your oaths. Thus God makes His verses clear to you, so that you may be grateful.
-
90
O you who believe, wine, gambling, stone altars and divining arrows are only filth, the work of Satan. So avoid it, so that you may succeed.
-
91
Through wine and gambling, Satan only aims to sow hostility and loathing between you and to keep you away from remembering God and from the prayer. Will you not, then, refrain?
-
92
Obey God and obey the Messenger, and be on your guard. But if you turn away, know that Our Messenger's duty is only to convey [the message] clearly.
-
93
There is no blame on those who believe and do righteous deeds for what they ate [before], so long as they are mindful of God and believe and do righteous deeds, then are mindful of God and believe, then are mindful of God and do good. God loves those who do good.
-
94
O you who believe, God will surely test you with some of the game within reach of your hands and your spears, so that God may make known who fears Him unseen. Whoever transgresses after that will have a painful punishment.
-
95
O you who believe, do not kill game while you are in the state of pilgrim sanctity. Whoever of you kills it intentionally, the penalty is an equivalent of what he killed from livestock, as judged by two just men among you, as an offering brought to the Kaaba; or an expiation by feeding the needy, or its equivalent in fasting, so that he may taste the consequence of his deed. God has pardoned what is past, but whoever repeats it, God will exact retribution from him. God is Almighty, Lord of retribution.
-
96
The game of the sea and its food are made lawful for you, as provision for you and for travellers, but the game of the land is forbidden to you as long as you are in the state of pilgrim sanctity. Be mindful of God, to whom you will be gathered.
-
97
God has made the Kaaba, the Sacred House, a means of support for people, as well as the sacred month, the sacrificial animals and the garlanded [offerings]. That is so that you may know that God knows whatever is in the heavens and whatever is on the earth, and that God has full knowledge of all things.
-
98
Know that God is severe in punishment, and that God is Most Forgiving, Most Merciful.
-
99
The Messenger's duty is only to convey [the message]. God knows what you reveal and what you conceal.
-
100
Say, ‘The bad and the good are not equal, even though the abundance of the bad may impress you. So be mindful of God, O people of understanding, so that you may succeed.’
-
101
O you who believe, do not ask about things which, if made plain to you, would trouble you. But if you ask about them while the Quran is being sent down, they will be made plain to you. God has pardoned that. God is Most Forgiving, Most Forbearing.
-
102
A people before you asked such questions, and then came to disbelieve on account of them.
-
103
God did not ordain the bahirah, the sa'ibah, the wasilah or the ham [camels set apart by pagan custom]. But those who disbelieve invent lies about God, and most of them do not use reason.
-
104
When it is said to them, ‘Come to what God has sent down, and to the Messenger,’ they say, ‘Sufficient for us is what we found our forefathers following.’ What, even if their forefathers knew nothing and were not guided?
-
105
O you who believe, you are responsible for yourselves. Those who stray cannot harm you if you are rightly guided. To God you will all return, and He will inform you of what you used to do.
-
106
O you who believe, when death approaches one of you, [let there be] testimony among you at the time of making a bequest: two just men from among you, or two others from outside you if you are travelling in the land and the calamity of death befalls you. Detain them both after the prayer, and if you have doubts, let them swear by God, ‘We will not sell [our testimony] for any price, even if it concerns a relative, and we will not conceal the testimony of God; otherwise we would surely be among the sinners.’
-
107
But if it is discovered that the two were guilty of sin, then let two others stand in their place from among those whose rights were violated, the two nearest [to the deceased], and let them swear by God, ‘Our testimony is truer than their testimony, and we have not transgressed; otherwise we would surely be among the wrongdoers.’
-
108
That is more likely to make them give testimony in its true form, or fear that [other] oaths may be accepted after their oaths. Be mindful of God and listen. God does not guide the defiantly disobedient people.
-
109
On the Day when God gathers the messengers and says, ‘What response did you receive?’ they will say, ‘We have no knowledge. It is You who are the Knower of all things unseen.’
-
110
[Remember] when God will say, ‘Jesus son of Mary, remember My favour upon you and upon your mother, when I strengthened you with the Holy Spirit, so that you spoke to people in the cradle and in maturity; when I taught you the Book and wisdom, the Torah and the Gospel; when you fashioned from clay the form of a bird, by My leave, and breathed into it, and it became a bird by My leave; when you healed the blind and the leper by My leave; when you brought forth the dead by My leave; and when I held back the Children of Israel from you when you came to them with clear proofs, and those of them who disbelieved said, “This is nothing but plain magic.”
-
111
And when I inspired the disciples, “Believe in Me and in My Messenger,” they said, “We believe; bear witness that we are Muslims.”’
-
112
When the disciples said, ‘Jesus son of Mary, is your Lord able to send down to us a table [spread with food] from heaven?’ he said, ‘Be mindful of God, if you are believers.’
-
113
They said, ‘We wish to eat from it, and to have our hearts reassured, and to know that you have told us the truth, and to be among its witnesses.’
-
114
Jesus son of Mary said, ‘O God, our Lord, send down to us a table [spread with food] from heaven, to be a festival for us, for the first of us and the last of us, and a sign from You. Provide for us, for You are the best of providers.’
-
115
God said, ‘I am sending it down to you. But whoever of you disbelieves after that, I will punish him with a punishment with which I have not punished anyone in all the worlds.’
-
116
And when God will say, ‘Jesus son of Mary, did you say to people, “Take me and my mother as two gods besides God”?’ he will say, ‘Glory be to You! It was not for me to say what I had no right [to say]. Had I said it, You would surely have known it. You know what is within myself, and I do not know what is within Yourself. It is You who are the Knower of all things unseen.
-
117
I said nothing to them except what You commanded me: “Worship God, my Lord and your Lord.” I was a witness over them as long as I remained among them, but when You took me [to Yourself], You were the Watcher over them. You are witness over all things.
-
118
If You punish them, they are Your servants; and if You forgive them, You are the Almighty, the All-Wise.’
